After giving up a leadoff homer to Werth to start the ninth (Werth is now has 4 of the Phillies' 7 hits), Belisle puts the Phillies down in order and it's a final from Coors Field. In a very successful opening home game of the 2009 season, the Rockies make it look easy, 10-3.
  • Weebs
Newly acquired Matt Belisle (Promoted from AAA for Juan Morillo- more on that later) will work the 9th inning in what has become a laugher of a ballgame.
  • Weebs
Fowler, who went to third base on the Spilborghs single, runs home on a Todd Helton flyball to the right-center gap and makes it 10-2 Rockies!
  • Weebs
And Spilborghs follows that up with an RBI single to RF. It's now 9-2 Rockies will traffic still on the bases. Spilborghs is also off to a hot start this year.
  • Weebs
In the bottom of the 8th, Barmes is HBP with one out, Seth Smith draws a walk, and then Dexter Fowler, hitting from the left side, bloops a single into the cavernous Coors Field outfield. Barmes makes a great read on the play and scores easily, making it 8-2. Dexter Fowler has looked absolutely fantastic in his first two starts of the 2009 season.
  • Weebs
Alan Embree is now on to pitch for the Rockies. Marquis pitched a borderline excellent game, scattering 5 hits and 2 runs in 7 innings of work. It's still 7-2 Rockies.
  • Weebs
Marquis will pitch another inning, as he leads off the bottom of the 6th with a double. Marquis is 2 for 2 and also has a very nice sac bunt. Fowler moves him over to third with another nice bunt, and it's up to Spilborghs and Helton to get in the 8th run.
  • Weebs
Marquis delivered the Rockies through the 6th inning. At only 83 pitches, he may come out for one more. He looked a little rough to start the game, leaving the ball up in the zone. But from the third inning and on, he's look very polished. The Rockies still lead 7-2.
  • Weebs
And the Rockies run Hamels out in the 4th inning. After Atkins singles to left, Hamels is pulled and we'll see J.A. Happ out of the Philly pen. The Rockies still have two men on and have a 7-2 lead.
  • Weebs
Ryan Spilborghs! After a Barmes leadoff basehit to left, a Marquis bunt, and a Fowler groundout which moved Barmes to third, Spilborghs hits his 5th double on the season and Barmes trots home! And sure enough, Todd Helton immediately follows that with an RBI single to right field! Taco Bell for everyone, as it's 7-2 in the 4th inning!
  • Weebs
In the top half of the 4th, Werth hits his second double of the game. After a terrific play by Barmes to throw out Ibanez, Feliz grounds out to short and plates the run. It'll be 5-2 Rockies going into the bottom half of the 4th.
  • Weebs
Brad Hawpe crushes an offering into the right center gap that one hops the fence for a ground rule double. Sure enough, Troy Tulowitzki keeps up his hot start and sends a ball over Ibanez's head in left field for a triple, making it 5-1 Rockies. Hamels is getting rocked and the Rockies have threatened to break this game open early. Let's see what Marquis can do with a lead.
  • Weebs
    GARRETT ATKINS!!!!!!!!!

Hitless on the year, he pulverizes a Hamels fastball that got left up in the zone to make it 4-1 Rockies in the third!
  • Weebs
Todd Helton gives one of his patented ABs, working 8 pitches before grounding out to second. Marquis comes home to make it 2-1 and Spilborghs heads over to third.
  • Weebs
Fowler then drops a beautiful bunt down and Hamels hits him in the back with the throw. But the home plate umpire Everitt calls Fowler out for running in fair territory. Horrible, horrible call. And it's also a dead ball situation, which forces Marquis back to first base. So instead of two on and nobody out, we have one on and nobody out. But Spilborghs tries to make up for it and sends one to the gap in right center! Marquis stops at third, and the Rockies are still threatening...
  • Weebs
And Jason Marquis comes through! After failing to get down the bunt to move Barmes to third, Marquis swings away and hits one in the hole between short and third. Barmes comes around to score and we're tied at 1.
  • Weebs
Clint Barmes has a great at-bat to start the Rockies' half of the third. After falling behind 0-2, he fights off a couple of pitches and then rips one down the left field line for a leadoff double. Let's see if the Rockies can take advantage.
  • Weebs
After a Werth leadoff double in the 2nd, Ibanez hits an odd-bouncer up the middle that Tulowitzki can't handle, creating a 1st and 3rd situation with no outs. It's the Rockies' first error of the season. Feliz flies out to fairly deep CF and Werth trots home. It's 1-0 Philles on the sacrifice fly.
  • Weebs
Marquis gets himself into a jam early, giving up a leadoff single to Rollins and a walk to Utley. But Marquis bears down and forces Howard into a 4-6-3 double play on a very nice 3-2 breaking pitch. We go to the home half of the first 0-0.
